About AUVSI

What is AUVSI?

AUVSI is the world's largest nonprofit organization devoted exclusively to advancing the unmanned systems and robotics community. With members from government organizations, industry and academia, the AUVSI fosters, develops, and promotes unmanned systems and robotic technologies. AUVSI provides opportunities for information exchange, networking and business development and is the best resource for simply learning about unmanned systems and robotics or for staying abreast of the latest program and technology updates.

New England Chapter

The New England Chapter of AUVSI is very active and is focused on education, networking and advocacy for uncrewed vehicle systems. It is growing and developing the local community in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. The Chapter hosts 4 major industry events annually and  monthly education and networking sessions. There are many ways that you can get involved beginning with membership with AUVSI and affiliating with the New England Chapter.  Membership will provide you and companies in New England with opportunities to network, get involved with committees and events, and to support the growth of unmanned systems in New England.

Our membership is not limited to New England as many of our activities extend to other states and other companies.  Please take a look at our Membership page to learn more about becoming an affiliated member of this Chapter and check back often as we work to develop and expand the content on this website.

History

By the end of the Vietnam War, the potential for Remotely Piloted Vehicle (RPV) technology began gaining momentum and in 1972, the National Association of Remotely Piloted Vehicles (NARPV) was created to promote and advance this rapidly growing industry.

By the late 1970's, RPV's became known as Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs), but the newly recognized term "unmanned" encompassed more than just air vehicles. Growing developments in the ground, maritime and space arenas caused the organization to broaden its reach and in 1978, the NARPV expanded its focus and services to create a community that included all unmanned systems disciplines. The community became known as the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems (AUVS).

Through the 80s and 90s, AUVS mirrored the fast pace of growth of the unmanned systems industry, and the demand for the organization's services began to reach globally. In 1996, AUVS adopted an international focus and became the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI).

AUVSI continues as the hub of the global unmanned systems and robotics community. Through communication, education, advocacy, awareness and leadership, the organization continues to promote and support the unmanned systems and robotics industry.

In 2022 AUVSI renammed to the Association of Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International.
