The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) implemented the small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) rule in 2016. This is commonly known as Part 107, of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The AUVSI has analyzed the waivers approved by the FAA (see FAA…

A key part of the AUVSI’s advocacy mission is to inform congress about the Unmanned Vehicle Systems domain, issues that affect the industry and about the AUVSI itself. As you may know Congress is composed of House of Representatives made of 435 members each serving a two year term, and the Senate made up of 100 Senators (two from each state) serving six year terms. These term periods mean that there is a lot of change of the members, at least every two years, so it is necessary to meet the new members and their staff as they may not…

So how can you use multiple unmanned vehicles on the surface and underwater to detect and neutralize mines? Raytheon has demonstrated a capability to detect and engage the mine in a single sortie. Raytheon demonstrated its AQS-20C mine-hunting sonar, coupled with a surrogate for its Barracuda mine neutralizer, which worked together to detect and engage an object designed to mimic an undersea mine in the Narraganset Bay. The video illustration below is worth watching. Mine countermeasure capability with Raytheon AQS-20 sonar & Barracuda. Raytheon video. The company also demonstrated its Common Control System (CCS) integrated with the mine hunting and…
