The second annual New York UAS Symposium, hosted by NUAIR, at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York, Sept. 16-18, 2019 brought in more than 300 participants. The symposium gives the UAS community a chance to network with UAS industry leaders from around the globe, to make new connections, and most importantly, discuss the key issues facing our industry. So how can you use multiple unmanned vehicles on the surface and underwater to detect and neutralize mines? Raytheon has demonstrated a capability to detect and engage the mine in a single sortie. Raytheon demonstrated its AQS-20C mine-hunting sonar, coupled with a surrogate for its Barracuda mine neutralizer, which worked together to detect and engage an object designed to mimic an undersea mine in the Narraganset Bay. The NUAIR Alliance (FAA UAS Test Site) has hired Major General Marke F. “Hoot” Gibson (ret) as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Gibson most recently served as Senior Advisor on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Integration to the Deputy Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He began on November 13 and will oversee the organization’s efforts to safety integrate UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS). At the July 2017 Board of Directors meeting, the chapter welcomed two new Directors and made formal the appointment of a new Executive Committee. Robert O'Malley, Business Director with iXBlue (Natick, MA), and Jeffrey DeCarlo, Massachusetts Dept of Transportation - Aviation Administrator, both joined the board for three year terms.
