Safer, Better, and More Affordable: Why AUV’s Are The Future of Storage Tank Inspections
Amy Underwood, a senior roboticist at Square Robot discusses how the company is using AUVs to revolutionize the above-ground, petrochemical storage tank inspection industry. The presentation will cover the development of the company’s robotic platform as well as the logistics and complexities of deploying an AUV to perform non destructive testing (NDT) inspections of the internals of liquid-filled storage tanks. The discussion will focus on some of the challenges of putting a robot into a hazardous location.
Amy Underwood Bio
Amy is a Senior Roboticist at Square Robot, orchestrating the development of our robots from concept to HazLoc-certified product. Amy provides a well-rounded, detail-oriented view of a robot's design challenges.
She is a former Senior Systems Engineer, Program Manager, and Technical Lead at Bluefin Robotics. At Bluefin, Amy supported multiple AUV programs; defining architectures, writing requirements, generating and executing verification tests, and operating AUVs. Amy guided the product development of a low-cost AUV designed to facilitate rapid technology development.
Amy has a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire with a focus in systems modeling, simulation, and control. Her research culminated in the development and validation of control systems for a rover utilizing celestial navigation.
Following this session at 1:00pm will be the Annual AUVSI New England Members Meeting. You are welcome to attend and learn about current activities, events planned and new initiatives.
