Please join AUVSI New England for the New England UAS and AAM Summit 2024 on Tuesday, October 29 - Wednesday, October 30 at the U.S. DOT Volpe Center of Transportation in Cambridge, MA. This year’s theme, If We Build It, Will They Come?, will focus on the market challenges of building new aviation infrastructures as the future direction of UAS and AAM growth is still being defined.

The Summit, co-hosted by AUVSI New England, NDIA New England, and MassAutonomy, spans two action-packed days of presentations, exhibits, and networking opportunities, followed on Thursday, October 31 by an optional tour of a regional UAS/AAM innovation engine. Leaders from state and federal agencies, industry, and academia will come together to discuss progress, opportunities, and obstacles in UAS and AAM infrastructure development; will highlight industry approaches to cybersecurity; and will ask, "Who's buying?" as these technologies mature.

*The 2024 program is being developed and is subject to change.*

SESSION 1 | If We Build It, Will They Come?
Harkening a field of dreams, the UAS and AAM industry has gained momentum and continues to develop tangible solutions over time. The morning sessions explore the practical applications of this technology and its real-world users through delving into specific use cases. We will also discuss the broader implications and challenges of adopting these advanced technologies.

9:45 AM - 10:30 AM SESSION 1 PANEL | Infrastructure Supporting Advanced Aviation Operations
The supporting infrastructure is becoming increasingly sophisticated with the maturation of advanced UAS operations, AAM, and autonomous ground vehicles. This panel examines vertiports, charging networks, Detect and Avoid (DAA) systems, and communications networks, emphasizing their interconnections and integrated functionality.

10:30 AM - 10:45 AM COMMERCIAL BREAK & NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY

10:45 AM - 11:15 AM SESSION 1 FIRESIDE CHAT | Who's Investing, and Why?
The UAS and AAM industry saw a sharp decline in venture funding from 2022 to 2023, plummeting by nearly 50%. This trend continues in 2024, with lower investment levels than in 2022. Sector investors gather to discuss the criteria influencing investment decisions and the expectations for companies receiving funding.

11:15 AM - 12:00 PM FOCAL TOPIC | Challenges and Roadmaps Across the Nation
Regional programs focused on advanced aviation have consistently supported the development of UAS and AAM, propelling the industry forward. We look at the next steps for these programs.

12:00 PM - 12:40 PM LUNCH & EXHIBIT HALL

12:40 PM - 1:00 PM STEMFEST
Hear from our future leaders! AUVSI NE, in collaboration with the NDIA NE Chapter, presents groups of high school STEM students. This session marks the first of two opportunities for these talented individuals to showcase their UAS and AAM projects, promoting valuable exchanges among industry professionals, government speakers, attendees, and STEM students.

1:00 PM - 1:45 PM SPECIAL TOPIC | Implications of Autonomy in Civil Air Travel
Five years have passed since the tragic crashes of two 737 MAX 8 aircraft in Indonesia and Ethiopia. This session will focus on how civil aviation regulators are advancing to prevent the oversights that caused these crashes from recurring.

  SESSION 2 | Automation
The afternoon sessions examine on automation in aviation.

1:45 PM - 2:30 PM SESSION 2 PANEL | Autonomy Trick or Treat! When Will Autonomy Make a Difference?
Autonomy or automation? The distinction is becoming increasingly blurred. Automation has been a cornerstone in traditional aviation for decades. This session delves into how the next generation of aviation equipment developers are drawing from proven automation solutions of the past while pushing the boundaries of autonomy.

2:30 PM - 2:45 PM COMMERCIAL BREAK & NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY

2:45 PM - 3:15 PM AFTERNOON KEYNOTE | The Evolution of Air Traffic Management
Air Traffic Management (ATM) is critical for ensuring the flying public's safety. As UAS and AAM operations aim to expand into denser areas requiring ATM oversight, supplementary traffic management tools (UTM) will become necessary to manage Air Traffic Managers' workload effectively. Our keynote address explores the evolving integration efforts between ATM and UTM systems.
